Effortlessly Remove Adhesive Residue from Acrylic - Expert Tips

It is frustrating to remove a sticker from acrylic, only to find a sticky residue left behind. Residue can also be left behind by tape or other sticky substances. Whether the acrylic is used for a fish tank, table or other item, being able to have a clean, mark-free piece is important. Using safe home remedies may solve your problem.

Baby Oil Method

  • Apply baby oil to a cloth. Pour out just enough to saturate the sticky area.

  • Secure the cloth over the sticky area with painter's tape, which does not leave a residue.

  • Allow the cloth with baby oil on it to sit on the sticky area for 2 to 5 minutes.

  • Remove the cloth. Use a clean dry cloth to remove the sticky residue and baby oil. If the residue will not come off, you may carefully use a putty knife to remove the remaining residue. Be careful not to scratch the acrylic.

Vinegar Method

  • Warm about 1/2 cup of vinegar in a small pot.

  • Saturate a clean cloth with the warm vinegar.

  • Apply the cloth to the residue. Allow the cloth to saturate the residue for about 2 minutes. Use painter's tape to secure the cloth if you do not want to hold it there.

  • Wipe the vinegar and residue off with a clean cloth. If the residue will not come off, you may carefully use a putty knife to remove the remaining residue. Be careful not to scratch the acrylic.

Soap and Water Method

  • Mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap in 1 cup of warm water in a small dish.

  • Soak a cloth in the solution.

  • Apply the cloth to the residue and allow it to sit for 5 minutes. Use painter's tape to secure the cloth if you do not want to hold it in place.

  • Remove the cloth, wipe the residue and soap water off with a clean cloth. If the residue will not come off, you may carefully use a putty knife to remove the remaining residue. Be careful not to scratch the acrylic.
