If you use a humidifier, you should clean it on a routine basis, and you also should disinfect it at the same time. The more often you use the appliance, the more often you should disinfect it. For example, if you run your machine 24 hours per day, seven days per week, a weekly cleaning and disinfecting is needed. Disinfect your humidifier with a common household chemical--no special supplies are needed.
Turn off the appliance and unplug it before beginning.
Remove the tank of the humidifier from the base of the machine, and wash it with mild liquid soap and water. Rinse thoroughly.
Fill the tank with water up to the recommended water level and add 1 tsp. of liquid bleach for each gallon of water the tank is holding.
Allow the bleach and water mixture to sit in the tank for approximately 20 minutes, and then pour the solution out into a drain.
Rinse the tank with clean water and wipe dry with clean paper towels. Replace the tank on the base for future use.
