Jacuzzi Jet System Flushing: A Guide to Maintaining Clean Water

Regardless of how careful you are about cleaning the tub itself, unless you flush out your jacuzzi jet system at least twice a month, it may be harboring bacteria. The jacuzzi jet system stores a small amount of water when it is not in use that is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Unless your jets are flushed with a disinfectant solution, that bacteria is released into the tub the next time you use your jets.

Things You'll Need

  • 20 oz. bleach
  • 2 tbsp. dishwasher detergent
  • Plastic pitcher
  • Towel
  • Turn each of your jacuzzi jets clockwise as far as they will go.

  • Close the drain of your jacuzzi tub and fill it with warm water until the highest jet is at least 2 inches underwater.

  • Add 20 oz. bleach and 2 tbsp. dishwasher detergent. Turn the jacuzzi jets on; run them for a minimum of 10 minutes.

  • Turn the jacuzzi jets off. Put on rubber gloves to open the tub drain. Use a large plastic pitcher to rinse the tub and remove any residue from the bleach and dishwasher detergent solution.

  • Wipe up any water drips from the top and outsides of your jacuzzi tub with a clean towel.
