How to Remove Super Glue from Aluminum: Effective Methods & Tips

No adhesive bond is permanent, not even Super Glue. Given the right materials and some patience, you can remove remnants of glue from any surface, including the metal of certain appliances, like stainless steel and aluminum.

Materials

  • To remove Super Glue, no matter what the brand, you can use acetone. Though acetone is often found in nail polish remover, check the ingredients on your polish remover. The acetone in more traditional removers weakens the bonds on acrylic nails. Some manufacturers don't include it to preserve their customers' manicures.

Preparation

  • Acetone can stain some materials. Test a small section of your item that needs the Super Glue removed, choosing an inconspicuous location. Apply a small amount with a cotton swab. If no discoloration appears, it's safe to use acetone in visible areas.

Method

  • To remove the Super Glue from your appliance or other item, apply the acetone and rub gently. You can use a cotton swab for this as well. The acetone will loosen the glue without the need to scratch or scrape off the glue, which can damage the finish of the item. Once the glue is loosened, pick off what remains after the rubbing application.
