Understanding Assisted Living: Care Levels & Community

Assisted living services and assisted living communities come in all types of facilities and all levels of care. Here are some examples of assisted living levels of care.   1) Many senior members of our communities can take care of themselves, but because of a loss of a spouse and friends and no children or children that live far away these senior members of our communities need some social interaction with other senior members of our communities. There are assisted living facilities where a senior can come to for senior living activities such as Bingo or a movie night or enjoy some musical entertainment together with other senior acquaintances. Some assisted living facilities provide housing for those senior members who need housing and care services around the clock, but these same assisted living facilities may provide the senior communities who don't live at the facilities with social activity opportunities.   2) Assisted living facilities may also serve meals to those senior communities who don't live at the facilities, but can come and enjoy a nice cooked meal or even a delivered meal from the assisted living services. This is very helpful for senior couples or single senior(s) in the communities who may not have the energy to cook a nice meal only for themselves.   3) Assisted living facilities can provide transportation services for those senior(s) around the communities. Assisted living services may include a chauffeur to drive senior(s) around to purchase groceries or run errands around the communities.   4) Assisted living facilities may providing housing to senior communities who still want to be independent. These assisted living facilities may have options for laundry services, cleaning services, cooking services, health care services, and transportation services.   5) Assisted living facilities then with those senior(s) who are very dependent on health care needs for only a short time may want to stay at assisted living facilities to enjoy the routine physical therapy and health care that the senior(s) may need after a surgery or stroke recuperation for example. In this case the assisted living facilities can provide short-term housing and health care around the clock for a specified amount of time.   6) Then there are those senior(s) who have reached the age and physical limitations of taking care of themselves and/or when family can no longer care for them because of the health care necessities. In this case assisted living centers would provide 24 hour care services of meals, showers, laundry, bathroom needs, and physical therapy.   It is true that many senior(s) in our communities would ideally want to stay with family where they are near their loved ones. However, some senior(s) don't want to be a burden on their families or their families cannot financially care for them or have the health care know-how to care for their senior parents. At other times senior(s) don't have family around and need to be cared for at assisted living facilities. Then of course there are the many senior(s) who don't need assisted living except for maybe after a surgery or stroke until they get back on their feet again. And there are the senior(s) in our communities who need to get to know other senior(s) within their communities which can be done at social events and meals for senior communities at assisted living facilities.
