Known as Friendship Day, every year, on the first Sunday of August, people celebrate this day and dedicate it to their friends. People across the globe celebrate it by giving their friends gifts and the special "friendship bands" to acknowledge each other as friends and important people to their lives.
To ccommemorate the bond of friendship and companionship, the US Congress declared that the first Sunday of August be declared as national Friendship Day, back in 1935. Initially only people residing in the United States celebrated the day but it later became so popular, that it soon began being celebrated as International Friendship Day.

Since it was a success, the United Nations in 1997 named Winnie the Pooh as the World's Ambassador of Friendship!
The special day is significant as it helps us acknowledge and cherish the role of friends in our lives. The concept of Friendship has been there from the beginning of time!
In Hindu Mythology in the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna was the perfect friend to Arjun by being by his side, guiding him, helping him in his toughest times, etc.

According to the Bible, friendship is a bond which is the foundation of everything that ranges from faith to companionship and trust.
This day has even made its way into pop culture with references of it everywhere in not only Bollywood but Hollywood cinema and music as well. There are numerous films and songs dedicated to friends and the idea of friendship.
