QuestionHello i would like to ask your views on eating raw or rare pork from farmer's markets only, is it safe? There were some websites on the internet stating that undercooked pork can transmit brain parasites to humans which i don't know if its true or not...
AnswerRaw pork is perfectly safe in terms of parasites, anyway. You have to bear in mind that, these days, other than 3rd-world regions, farmers are expected by law to regularly deworm their animals. That said, many rawists, such as myself, routinely eat raw meat from wild animals with no side-effects ever.
The problem with pork is that, in the UK and most other Western countries, pigs are mostly or wholly fed on grains which is highly unnatural and very unhealthy. Pigs in the wild are omnivorous eating carrion, insects, roots, leaves, worms, small mammals etc.If you can find genuinely grassfed/pastured pork then go for it, otherwise best to go for grassfed meats from other animals.
