Cholesterol Production in Strict Vegetarians: A Deep Dive

Question
If a person is a TOTAL, COMPLETE, and ABSOLUTE VEGETARIAN, and COMPLETELY stayed away from ALL animal, fowel, or fish foods, could thier body produce enough coleterol to keep them healthy?  If so, how, and if not, why not?

Thank you

Answer
Donald,

Our bodies (liver) produce all the cholesterol they need.  If you did not produce enough, you would not have survived past infancy.

No matter how much cholesterol you EAT, your body still produces over 95% of all the cholesterol in you blood.  Even if you gave up all animal products and saturated fats (which cause our bodies to produce more cholesterol) your body would still produce more than enough cholesterol.  In some cases, way, way more than enough.

Our cholesterol levels are around 80-90% genetic, which means diet is only one small piece in the cholesterol puzzle.

I hope this helps.

Best wishes.
