Margarine Allergy & Health: Exploring Potential Reactions and Weight Loss

Question
Hi
Is it possible to be allergic to margarine?
I have battled the bulge, although I eat sensibly and get regular exercise, since I was an adolescent.
This is also when my Mom stopped buying butter and switched to margarine.
I eat the expensive polyunsaturated/cold pressed type,but I use a fair bit.
Last week I cut it out completely.
Although my calorie and activity level are the same,I have lost a bit of weight!
Also,my usual stiff and creaky body(I am 50) feels much better!
Any thoughts?

Answer
Hi Barry - I always suggest eating butter rather than margarine.  Even if it claims to be polyunsaturated, it has still undergone some chemical/heating process to turn a liquid (polyunsaturated oil) into a solid...and sometimes margarines have additives and preservatives to extend shelf life.
Butter is natural and is a good source of natural saturated fat - we do need small amounts in order for our bodies to function effectively.
Your body seems to be responding positively to cutting out margarine - why go back?
Take care,
Amanda
