QuestionI'm 17. I'm 4ft 10in and weigh 140. I want to lose 40-50 pounds. According to my doctor I should be about 80-95lbs. I'm no longer with my doctor so I cannot ask any question reguarding weight loss. Anyway, I'm not sure how to lose weight. I was told by my dad who is currently loseing weight (and fast) to cut back on caloires. I did, lost 10 pounds and stayed there. I gained it all back very quickly. I did research and found that cutting calories is not the right way to go because it slows down my metabolism. I mostly found low carb diets. Limiting my carbs to 1g/lb. So that would be 140g of carbs daily for me or less for my body to go into ketosis.Ketosis seems to be what I am going for.I plan on doing 2 hours of walking a day at 2.5-4.0mph. (treadmill).I kinda have to since I have to do P.E for school. But im not sure what my diet should be. I dont have very healthy food. My family is..well, a bunch of junk food addicts and thats not going to ever change. I've been trying for years to get that to change. The best i can do is eat small portions of unhealthy foods unless you can provide me with a list of foods to get.
So my question is, how do I lose 40-50lbs of fat fast? low cal or low carb diet?
AnswerDear Sarah, You are not an adult, therefore you should not try to lose weight too quickly. Your body is still maturing, and it still needs calories and nutrients to finish the task.
To lose weight, strive for 1-2 pounds of weight loss per week, or 4-8 pounds per month. It will actually start adding up quickly and within the first month you should look and feel thinner. Strive for a lower carb diet, one that the carbs come from fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy and whole grain bread. Limit pasta, rice, mac and cheese, fast foods, bagels, white bread, etc. Try to eat 1200-1500 calories per day. Your exercise plan sounds perfect. Adding weight lifting will keep your metabolism from dropping, so try to add some weight lifting to your program. Now if you want a diet that is healthy and made up of junk food, I can't help you there. You are old enough to choose healthy foods, and ask that the person who buys the food in the house, supply some healthier options. Give your parent a list, or go shop for yourself. You are in charge of what goes into your mouth. There will always be junk food around, you have to motivate and control yourself to limit those foods. So, eat fruits, vegetables, lean meats, chicken, fish, pork, whole grain bread, low fat dairy, healthy fats like those in salad oils and nuts. Keep track of what calories you are consuming, and try to stay around, at the most 1500 calories per day. The more exercise you do, the more weight you will lose. If you do eat junk food, measure the calories and just keep it under 1500. Hope that helps, Laura Kraemer,Slimkids.com
