Bariatric Revision Surgery: Addressing Weight Regain After Gastric Bypass

Question
Dr. Pilcher:

I underwent stomach stapling (gastroplasty?) 25 years ago and lost 160 lbs to reach goal of 160.  I am now 32 BMI and constantly struggle with not going back to 40+ BMI.  I am Type 2 diabetes (insulin dependent), and on medications for cholesterol and GERT.  I have significant peripheral neuropathy.

Should I consider a revision?

Thanks,

WBP

Answer
William,
Techniques in bariatric surgery have improved substantially over the last 10-15 years, so it is reasonably likely that you would benefit from revision of your previous gastroplasty.  In order to have this more fully evaluated, you should meet with an experienced bariatric surgeon in your area.  You can find Center of Excellence surgeon in your area on the web at:

Best of luck,
