Wedding Ceremony Seating Order: Mother of the Bride & Groom

Question
Hello,

We are getting married in a Roman Catholic Church.  To my knowledge, the mother of the bride is always the last to be seated before the ceremony starts and the bridal party comes in.  My fiancee would like his mother to walk him down the aisle right before my dad and I, on the suggestion of our Pastor.  How can we work this situation so that my mom still gets seated last?  I feel that it isn't right that my mom get seated before the ceremony and then his mom is a part of the ceremony.

Thank you!

Answer
One thing you may want to consider is having both of your parents walk you down the aisle. This is actually a very common European practice. You may also consider having your mother in the processional before you- only she would take her seat instead of standing with the rest of the bridal party.  Unfortunately, having an usher seat your mother separately would seriously disrupt the flow of the processional itself. However, it is your wedding and you can choose to buck tradition and do this if your mother being seated last is an important tradition to you. =)

Please let me know if you'd like further suggestions or if I can help you with anything else. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Best wishes,
Helen =)
