Hair Coloring During Pregnancy: Safety & Best Practices

Hi,
My name is Anne. I am 37yrs old and have a 4yr old daughter. My last period began on approx Dec. 9 (I usually have 31-36 day cycles) I just today (jan. 10, 2005)got a positive home pregnancy test result.

can you tell me what the latest ideas are about dying your hair during pregnancy? I have heard it is ok and I have heard that it not safe as the dye could absorb through your scalp and put the developing fetus at risk. is there a "safer" time during pregnancy to color your hair? or best just to wait?

I know this is not an earth shattering medical issue but of concern non the less.

You can safely dye your hair during pregnancy. It will not cause any harm to you, the pregnancy, or the fetus. However, since the protein in your hair changes during pregnancy, it is possible that you will not get the exact color you think you are going to come out with.
