i am so sorry to bother i just wanted you to know i wasnt wearing gloves when i wiped down countewr with paper towel. does that put me at risk? you dont need any long answer just yes or no so i can be clear on issue. also what is prolonged exposure? thanks again and i promise to leave you alone. My OBGYN is in isreal for 3 weeks!
I am 9 weeks pregnant. after reading material on computer i am freaking out over a few incidents that have occured. At around 6 weeks i cleaned a table with a cleaning supply which mainly smelled like bleach. the smell was strong and after i wiped table i walked away. It was an open room. Another incident being the other day when i sprayed some 409 in my kitchen. smell got to me and i walked away put on fan. Both incidents air condition was on. I find those incidents could of been prevented but today i walked into my sons school which had been disinfected . This time i made sure to cover my nose. In all these incidents i sprayed and cleaned than walked away. total exposure was a few minutes. AM i at risk for birth defects or does this have to be a long standing exposure. i am so worried.

You, yourself may get nauseated or develop a cough or lung problems with prolonged exposure to cleaning materials (ammonia, bleach, etc). However, the pregnancy or the baby will not be effected. Since the baby does not breath, the particles that you breath do not cause harm to the baby. I would avoid exposure so that you will not get sick, but do not worry about the pregnancy. If the fumes bother you, merely open a window or go out of the room.
AnswerYou are not at increased risk by cleaning the countertop with a paper towel. Nothing will enter your skin and cause harm to the baby or to the pregnancy. Don't worry. Prolonged exposure to pathogens means constant inhaling of them with no access to clean air.
