Emergency Contraception & Pregnancy Risk After Unprotected Sex
Questioni've gotten myself into a slight situation. i'm starting birth control on sunday and i was with my boyfriend last night and he thought i had already started my birth control and we did not use a condom. i'm very terrified because i am not ready for a kid. i was told you can only get pregnant 3 times out of the month. is that true and if so which days? i also just finished my period on Tuesday, June 20, will that in any way help my situation?
AnswerLora,
It is true that you can only get pregnant about 3 days out of your cycle (it can only happen when you ovulate). These days are usually between days 10-20 of your cycle, depending on the length of your cycle and when you ovulate. It is different for every person. So, you are most likely okay, however, you can't be completely sure. Before you start the birth control, you should have your doctor run some blood work to make sure you aren't pregnant first. I don't think the chances are that great that it would be positive, but you don't want to take birth control if you are pregnant. I hope this helps. Good luck!
