Antibiotics and Birth Control: What to Do If You Missed a Pill

Question
I took an antibiotic pill called tetracycline hydrochloride 500 mg dose earlier today because of some early flu symptoms.Afterwards (about 1 hour) i took my birth control pill. Later i read that antibiotics such as these lessen the effectiveness of birth control pills.Right away i took a second Birth control pill thinking it would help for some reason. My question is what do i do now to prevent pregnancy. Do i use a backup method for 7 days or do i take a Plan B pill?

Answer
Dear Nataly

Please do not worry and do not overreact. The warning you read is related to a course or repeated courses of an antibiotic and not to a single antibiotic tablet.

As a precaution, you can use plan B to make you feel comfortable and removes any worries from your side.

Good Luck
