Understanding Post-Menstrual Odor & Fertility Concerns

Question
I have recently noticed a foul odor about 1 week after the last day of my period.  It seemed quite acidic and pungent and almost like left over bleeding.  Is this what it is or could this be affecting my fertility as I have been trying for about 6 months to become pregnant?
Thank you

Answer
Hello,

The smell is probably due to residual blood in the uterus and vagina, which is not unusual.  Believe me, I have experienced it many many times in my career.  It could also be some type of bacterial infection and you should be checked for that.  It does not affect your fertility unless it is some type of bacterial infection.

The majority of young women take 8-12 months to get pregnant, so don't worry yet.
