Genital Herpes Transmission Risk from Blood Contact: What You Need to Know
QuestionMy husband has genital herpes. I was caring for his open wound from a cut and accidentally got blood on my hand. Is it possible to contract herpes from blood contact of an infected person? He is taking famvir twice per day...250 mg in the am and 250 mg in the pm. Any help appreciated! Thanks!
AnswerUsually it is not contagious unless you get blood or serum from an open herpes sore into an open cut or scratch on you. Also, if he is in active treatment like you describe it would be less likely. OK?
See www.cdc.gov and search for genital herpes for greater details. OK?
