Understanding Clumped Enhancement on MRI: What Does It Mean?
QuestionI am 34 years old with a history of breat cancer (my mom).
I had an MRI 2 weeks ago and they told me I have a "clumped enhancement" on my right breast and they are sending me for a mamogram. What are the chances this "clumped enhancement" is breast cancer?
AnswerIt is impossible to give you an exact chance percentage in a single case like this. But it is big enough to - together with your family history - justify a mammography. In your place I would also INSIST on a needle biopsy of the lesion in order to be as sure as possible either way. I would also order an ultrasound scan to get as complete a picture as possible.
Good luck!
