Brazilian Waxing for Men: Benefits, Recovery & Considerations

Question
QUESTION: hi.  my name is steve and i'm 58.  last year i had triple-bypass surgery that required me to be totally shaved from neck to knees.  and i liked the look of being all clean and bare in my "southern hemisphere" and decided to keep shaving it during my recovery.  and i've continued to shave down there but i have to shave like every 3 or 4 days becuase it gets itchy .  so i've been considering getting a brazlian wax because supposedly it lasts a lot longer than shaving.  but i have questions about it that i'd like answers to.  i want ALL my pubic hair removed including the hair that grows on the base of my penis and the hairs on my scrotum and the hair in my butt-crack.  how bad will that hurt??  i have a pretty high pain threshold but i don't want to like stop the procedure because it hurts too bad!  how long does it take and what can i expect of the procedure?  as in what positions will i be placed in?  and since this is a very intimate part of my body i am fairly certain that i will become aroused at one point or another.  do the waxers take that for granted and play it off or would that create awkwardness?  i'm not positive that would happen but it is a concern and i wouldn't want them to think that it was anything other than mere reflexive reaction.  after it's done, how long will the hair stay gone before it has to be done again?  i've read conflicting stories and some say waxing or shaving makes the hair grow back thicker and faster and some say it makes it grow less thick and less quickly.  thank you for taking the time to read all this and hopefully answering my questions.  i realize they probably sound dumb to you but this is all uncharted territory to me!  lol  i look forward to any light that you can shed on me.  bye, steve

ANSWER: Hello Steve,

I hope and pray that you are doing well after your triple by pass surgery.

Your questions are normal especially if you haven't experienced the Brazilian waxing method.
I won't lie - the Brazilian may feel uncomfortable at first but as you continue the service - it gets easier and seeing how you have a high pain threshold you should be ok.
My experience with waxing is that your hairs grow slower and aren't as thick. Please know that everyone is different, I've waxed people a couple of times and they don't need to be waxed for months and others need to be waxed every week.
My main concern is your sensitive parts experiencing hot wax. As an Esthetician, I would highly advise that you don't have wax put there. The skin on your testicles are very sensitive as you know. A good caring esthetician will not agree to apply wax there.
There is another option and that is laser treatment. It's less painful, of course it's more expensive.

I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have after you read my reply.

Take good care and look forward to your reply.

Warmly,
Elaine :)

QUESTION: hi elaine!  thank you SOO much for your very speedy reply.  i am doing amazingly well since my surgery and thank you very much for asking!  that shows you have a kind heart.  i have to take enough pills to choke a horse every morning but that's a trade-off i'll willingly make.  lol  anyway, i'm kinda confused by your statement that a good esthetician won't wax my testicles??  i was under the impression that a male brazilian wax included that.  i mean like what's the use in getting my pubic hair waxed if i still have hair on my scrotum??  i am aware of the laser hair removal you mention but i can't fiscally manage that.  and you didn't address my questions about how long it takes and what i can expect during the procedure or what positions i will be asked to assume and the very real possibility that i will become aroused while it's being done.  i'm sure it was merely an oversight because you sound like a very sweet woman with the knowledge and expertise and experience of a true expert in your field.  bye elaine. i very much look forward to your reply and hope to talk to you again soon! :)   steve   p.s. intelligence and expertise are very attractive traits in a woman!

Answer
Hello again Steve!

So happy to read that you are doing amazingly well since your surgery.

Thank you for your kind comments!

I understand that laser can be costly but just wanted to give you another option.

I'm sorry that you feel confused about my answer regarding waxing your private areas. Yes, it's true that male brazilian waxes include the removal of all hair but it's important for me to stress that waxing your sensitive areas should be avoided. I have never performed a brazilian on a man - just bikini waxes.
I take high caution for any area that may cause pain.

To answer how long the procedure is - well that depends on the Esthetician and how experienced they are. It could take up to a half hour or hour. You may be asked to get on your knees for your buttocks area.
I am not sure how to answer if you will become aroused from the waxing procedure. Some men do and some don't-

If you decide to wax, I'd like to suggest that you make your appointment in the afternoon.
This way your skin isn't as sensitive, you have been moving around for circulation and it won't sting as much. Make sure the Esthetician applies pressure to the newly waxed area - I've learned doing this that the pull of the wax won't hurt as much.

Steve, have you looked into any spa's in your area?

Please know that my main concern for all my clients is to do the right thing.

I will be curious if you will have the waxing procedure and how it goes.

I hope this response helps you understand the waxing procedure from my point of view.

My good thoughts and prayers go out to you for continued health. Eat well and be happy.

Warmly,
Elaine
