Exogen Phase: Understanding Hair Shedding & Growth

The falling out stage of hair growth is called the exogen phase.

Here's a breakdown of why:

* Hair Growth Cycle: Hair growth occurs in a cyclical pattern with distinct phases.

* Exogen: This phase is essentially an extension of the telogen (resting) phase. During exogen, the old hair sheds from the scalp. It often overlaps with the beginning of the anagen (growth) phase where a new hair begins to grow and pushes the old one out.

So, while telogen is the resting phase when the hair isn't actively growing, exogen is the specific part of the cycle when the old hair actually falls out. It's the "shedding" phase.
