Understanding Black Hair Texture: Facts & Care

It's not accurate to say that all Black women have frizzy hair. Hair texture varies widely among people of African descent, ranging from very curly and coily to wavy or even straight.

The perception of frizz often comes from the unique structure of many Black women's hair, which tends to be more tightly coiled. This curl pattern can make it appear drier and more prone to frizz because natural oils from the scalp have a harder time traveling down the hair shaft. However, with proper care and moisturizing techniques, many Black women are able to manage and style their hair in various ways, minimizing frizz and celebrating its natural texture.
