Straight Perm & Hair Texture: Understanding What to Expect After a Perm

It's unlikely your hair will be curly after a shower immediately following a straight perm.

Here's why:

* Straight perms are designed to straighten hair. The chemicals in a straight perm break down the natural bonds in your hair and then reform them in a straighter shape.

* The perm takes time to set. The straight perm solution needs time to fully process and set. This usually involves a waiting period after the solution is applied, followed by a neutralizing step.

* Washing your hair too soon can disrupt the perm. Washing your hair too soon after a straight perm can wash away the neutralizing solution before it has fully set. This can weaken the perm and make it less effective.

However, the following might happen:

* Your hair might be slightly wavy. Even if the perm is successful in straightening your hair, it's possible for some slight waviness to remain, especially if your hair is naturally wavy or curly.

* Your hair might become wavy as it grows out. As your hair grows out, the permed section will become straighter and the new growth will retain its natural texture, which might create a wavy appearance.

In short, showering immediately after a straight perm will not make your hair curly. However, your hair might be slightly wavy as it grows out.

If you want to make sure your straight perm is successful, it's important to follow your stylist's instructions for aftercare. This usually includes avoiding washing your hair for at least 48 hours after the perm.
