Holi is a festival of colours but unfortunately, these colours are chemically synthesized and are extremely harmful for our skin and health. If you have babies or kids under the age of 5 or people suffering from Asthma and other respiratory problems like bronchitis and irritated mucus, make sure you do not bring the colours in close contact with them. And, now let us discuss how you can protect your skin and hair on the day. Here are the useful holi safe tips for skin care, lip care and nail care!
The goal is to avoid getting the colours on the bare skin. So, you start with applying a moisturizer, sunscreen and then, if you really don’t mind, go for almond or coconut oil. A thick coat of sunscreen followed by oil will prevent anything from coming in contact with your skin. Allow a little time in between applying these products so that they may get absorbed by the skin properly. And, if you do not like oil, make sure you apply a good amount of sunscreen. However, we have must tell you that coconut oil is the best thing to use any day!
Physical Sunscreen made up of Zinc Oxide is a good way to create a barrier over the skin as Zinc oxide particles are thick and they simply sit on the skin. This would create a barrier over the skin which would prevent the chemical colours coming in contact with your skin. Be especially careful with your face and neck as the skin is more sensitive there and keep the colours away from the eyes. Going for a thick layer of makeup is a really good way to keep the colours from the skin too.
Make sure you are covered as much as possible to lessen the contact of colours with your skin. Clothes are a good way to keep the colours away. And, try not to play with the watercolours as they are deeper and harder to get rid of and also, your precautions would not have any effects then as water will wash away everything. And, wear a waterproof sunscreen in that case. This where we can say that oils are safest for they don’t wash off so easily. And thus, protect your skin from holi.
Apply a thick coat of lip gloss, lipstick, lip balm or Vaseline to prevent the colour from settling on the lips. You skin here has the least amount of protection of its own.
You will be handling the colours with your hands so nails will definitely get affected. Make sure you cut your nails (if you don’t mind) so that the colour doesn’t settle on the nail bed. The shorter your nails the better it is. And, apply nail paint on the nails to prevent the colour from settling into the nail grooves and protect the cuticles by applying oil and moisturizers.
