Holi Hair Care: 16 Tips to Protect & Revive Your Hair

The festival of colours – Holi – is here. This vibrant festival is celebrated with a lot of fanfare across the country. It is one time when people don’t care about how they look. The more colours they get on themselves and others, the better.

Back in old days, holi was played with natural and herbal colours. Colours were extracted from herbs and flowers of the blooming season. With time, things changed, so did colours. The all herbal colours were replaced with colours, loaded with oxidized metals and industry dyes. The natural colours rendered lot of benefits and therapeutic effects on skin and health. The modern colours, on the other hand, offer more problems than fun.

Most guys and girls today fret about stepping out during holi. And the ones, who manage to do it, are constantly worried about the after-effects of these colours. Especially for their hair. But like every other problem, we have a solution for this one. You just need to follow the below-mentioned tips and you’ll be able to enjoy this vivacious festival like never before.

Hair Care Tips On Holi:

  1. Before stepping out to enjoy the festival, make sure you oil your hair well. Oil helps create a protective layer on your hair. Hence lessening the damage. Oil will also make it easier for the colours to be washed away. Oiling will also deep condition your hair.
  2. You can also use a lot of hair products on your hair. This will prevent the colours from getting in contact with your hair directly.
  3. Using conditioners and leave-in serums sure will create barrier on your hair. But again, it can cause a product build up too. So try and go for silicone-based leave-in serum. You can mix these with your regular conditioner and apply it to your hair. Do not forget to apply this on the scalp and temples.
  4. Remember to wash your hair properly afterwards.
  5. One of the coolest ways of protecting your hair while adding style is using a head gear. Wear a bandana or a scarf to protect your hair from both sun and colours.
  6. Try a heavily braided braid or even a high bun. Use a bun cover to make your hair look cooler and protecting it at the same time.
  7. If you have coloured your hair or highlighted it, you would need extra care. Use special shampoo and conditioner for your hair.
  8. Try going in for a hot towel treatment the night before. Use a towel, dipped in hot water, and wrap it around your hair over the head. Let it sit for 30 minutes to one hour. And then open it. This will open up all the pores on your scalp, which in turn will make all the colours come off easily the next day.

Other Userful Tips:

Apart from these:

  1. Try and start oiling your hair a week prior to the festival. Try using a combination of olive oil, jojoba and rosemary. This will close the hair cuticles. Plus it will give your hair the strength and nourishment needed for surviving through the day.
  2. Try and use organic colours for playing holi
  3. Be wary of metallic colours completely.
  4. Do not leave your hair open when playing holi.
  5. After playing holi, dust off dry colours before hitting the shower
  6. Wash your hair using a mild shampoo. If it doesn’t come off, avoid over-using it completely.
  7. Remember, the shampoo and colour will dry your scalp out. So remember to use a conditioner.
  8. If the colour is too stubborn to come off, oil your hair again after few days and try a hot towel treatment thereafter. You could also go in for a hair spa.
