Factors Affecting Skin Health: Lifestyle & Environment

What your skin is made of you know now. But what are the things that affect your skin? Its your daily routine and lifestyle. Take a look.

What affects the Skin?

Environmental Concerns:

Climate: Of course, you are already aware of this. Summer makes your skin oily or if you are a dry skin girl, your skin type becomes, more or less, normal. Combination and Oily skin literally suffers during this time. Again, if you are in a coastal or humid place, your skin is oilier. And, if you are living in hills, your skin is drier. But, the one thing which you should keep in mind is that it might not be your actual skin type. When you are under the influence of weather and climate, you more than misjudge your own skin type. But, skin care should always address your current skin conditions.

Exposure to Natural Forces:

Are you exposing your skin more in the sun? Or, may be struggling with the heavy traffic of the evenings while commuting back from work place to home or maybe it is too dusty near your residential locality? Or, you might be enjoying the bike rides? Yes, they all have some or the other effect on your skin. Generally, they dry out the skin and help the skin age more quickly.

Products used on the skin:

Yes, the products you are using can also affect your skin type. If you use harsh products, your skin can get dry where and if you using more moisturizing products, your skin can turn out oily. So, choosing products for your skin is a really difficult job!!!

Hormonal problems:

This is something which is not in your control but can wreak havoc on your skin. Your skin can suddenly start breaking out or it might get drier. So, take care of your health as much as possible by keeping your life style healthy.

Your Lifestyle

Water and Diet:

Of course, what you eat reflects on your skin. If you are not drinking enough water or taking enough of hydrating foods, your skin will becomes dull and if you are eating enough healthy fatty foods, your skin will look supple. Try it!!!

Exercise:

Excess of exercise can increase sebum production to more than normal so beware!!! Absence of exercise in your daily routine means lack of healthy blood circulation which is a contributing factor to glowing and supple skin.

Sleep:

Lack of sleep is always harmful for your skin.It always dries out your skin and makes it transgress into the mature skin type.

Your own skin care routine:

Are you not taking care of your skin at all? Or, taking too much care of your skin? Remember, excess of everything is bad!!! So, keep your exfoliation mania in control and facial indulgences in check.

Alcohol and Smoking:

Not very prevalent in India, but still there are many females indulging in these vices. Nothing wrong in your choices but do take care to be moderate or they affect the skin pretty badly.

Too used to Air-Conditioning:

Are you one of the AC buffs? Or, have to spend your entire day in an air-conditioned office? Yes, it steals the moisture from your skin. So, make sure you have a humidifier at your home and keep on moisturizing and hydrating your skin at regular intervals.
