Rainy Day Skincare: Protecting Your Skin After Exposure

It is often said, “The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain and enjoy it “

The smell of wet earth and the pitter pattering of rainfall always gets a smile on our faces. One gets refreshed when they get drenched in the rain .My favourite pastime in the rains is to go for a walk and frolic in the rain .Rains may be good for your mood but they can play havoc with your skin.

We are more prone to bacterial infections on scalp, skin or even breakouts from rain water bacteria. Tanning is also common because people have a notion that the sun is hidden behind the clouds so they don’t need to take precautions against the sun

Here are a Few Tips and Tricks to Follow and Have a Blast In the Rain Without Worrying About Skin Problems.

1. Taking a shower with an antibacterial soap, or a natural soap with antibacterial ingredients is a must. You may add a few drops of antibacterial liquid to your bath water especially after you have returned all soaked in the rain. Remember to gently towel dry or air dry wet hair rather than vigorously rubbing them.

2. Avoid using antibacterial soap on your face as they can be drying .Opt for a neem or tea tree oil cleanser on your face to keep dirt and grime away and keep skin bacteria free as well.To keep fungal infections at bay you can add a capful of dettol / savlon to your bucket of water.

3. Atmospheric pollutants and dust and dirt can play havoc on your complexion .Opt for some homemade tender loving care for your skin.

  • Apply a homemade face pack made with 4 tbsp of gram flour or besan, half a tbsp of turmeric, mixed with some rose water (for oily to sensitive skin) or milk (for dry to combination skin).Slather on and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash off and pat dry the skin gently

8. If you are planning to take a shower and shampoo your hair after getting wet in the rain, then it’s best if you opt for a hot oil massage on the head. It will do wonders for your hair in the rainy season. It will also minimize bacterial infections of rashes on the scalp from rainwater.

9. Cosmetics should be water based as far as possible. Keep a makeup sponge with yourself for any touch ups.Avoid sticky cream based cosmetics. Check for any signs of bacterial growth in your cosmetics. Purge any cosmetics older than a year. Clean your makeup brushes and implements by washing them in a mild solution of baby soap.
