Shellac & Regular Polish: Why They Don't Mix (and What to Use Instead)

You shouldn't put regular polish on top of shellac nail polish. Here's why:

* Shellac is a gel polish that needs to be cured under a UV lamp. Regular polish doesn't cure this way and will not adhere properly to the shellac. This will result in chipping and peeling.

* Regular polish remover can damage shellac. If you try to remove regular polish from over shellac, you risk damaging the shellac layer and compromising its durability.

* It's unnecessary. Shellac is already a long-lasting polish designed to stay chip-free for weeks. There's no need to add another layer of polish on top.

If you want to change the color of your shellac:

* Remove the shellac and apply a new color. This is the best way to ensure a smooth and long-lasting finish.

* Use a shellac top coat. If you want to add a bit of extra shine or color, you can use a shellac top coat. These are specially designed for use with shellac and will cure under the UV lamp.

In short, avoid putting regular polish on top of shellac. It's not compatible and could damage your manicure.
