Fingernail Growth: How Fast Do Nails Really Grow & Why They Seem Fast

Fingernails don't actually grow very fast compared to other parts of the body! They grow at a rate of about 0.1 mm per day, which is about 3 to 4 millimeters per month. This might seem fast because we see them constantly, but it's actually much slower than hair growth, for example.

Here's why fingernails seem to grow quickly:

* Visibility: They're right there on our fingertips, so we notice any change in length easily.

* Constant use: We use our hands a lot, constantly exposing our nails to our perception.

* Relative size: Compared to the size of our fingers, even a small change in nail length is noticeable.

So, it's not that fingernails grow unusually fast, but rather that we are more aware of their growth due to their visibility and frequent use.
