In S.E. Hinton's novel, "The Outsiders," Johnny Cade gets his scar in a brutal attack by a group of Socs (the rival gang from the wealthy side of town). The Socs, including Bob Sheldon, cornered Johnny and Ponyboy Curtis in a park late at night. During the fight, Bob and his friends beat Johnny severely, and one of them used a sharp object, believed to be Bob's rings, to cut Johnny's face, leaving him with a permanent scar. This traumatic event leaves Johnny deeply scarred, both physically and emotionally, and significantly impacts his character throughout the story.
