Eye makeup is never complete unless the mascara is done right with the lashes worked on.

We love curled eyelashes with heavy mascara coating. It gives our eye lashes that extra volume and length, while adding that oomph factor to the entire look. Eyelash curling is a very regular part of eye makeup, but not everyone is comfortable doing it.

This tutorial will show different styles that you can use to curl your eyelashes. Some are traditional and more commonly used methods while some are quite innovative. Read on to see which one seems to suit your needs best.

How to Curl Eyelashes?

Step 1: Pick a Mascara

Pick any good volumizing mascara or a curling mascara of your choice.

Step 2: Apply to Lashes

Use the mascara on the upper eye lash in a zig zag form.

Apply this on the lower lash in the same zig zag form in the other direction.

Step 3: Apply Second Coat

Close your eyes and repeat the application on the upper lashes.

These three steps are common no matter which procedure you pick from the ones shared below.

Step 4: Curling

Procedure 1: Traditional Curling Using Eyelash Curler

This is the traditional and most popular eyelash curling method.

  • First clean the rubber pads of the lash curler well.
  • Each time you use the eye lash curler, remember to clean the rubber pads before next use.
  • Wait for 2 minutes after mascara application
  • Place your upper lash into the curler and press.
  • Remove gently else you may rip off the lash strands.
  • Do the same with the lower lash.
  • Follow with another coat of mascara.
  • Next, comb your eye lashes with a lash comb to get the excess mascara off the strands.

Procedure 2: Curling Using Spoon

The eye lash curler may be a common curling tool but not all are comfortable using it. For those who want to curl their eye lashes but are not confident yet, here is an easy process to curl eyelashes with spoon.

  • After applying the mascara, wait for 2 minutes and let the mascara set on your lashes.
  • Take a clean spoon and on its back, blow some hot air from your mouth
  • Now press the spoon against the lashes.
  • You will get the required curling effect on your eye lashes
  • Repeat if required.
  • You can do the same by warming the spoon in hot water.
  • Use only warm and not hot spoon on the lashes.
  • Repeat mascara application followed by combing.

Procedure 3: Using Fingers

This is another easy and nice technique that works well sometimes, eyelash curling with fingers. The result may not be as dramatic as using the other methods, but it will be more of a subtle effect.

  • Rub 2 fingers against each other and make them warm as shown above.
  • Hold and press the upper lashes after 2 minutes of mascara application.

  • Do the same with the lower lashes.
  • This procedure will take a bit longer than the other ones but it will give you nice results without the use of any tools.
  • Repeat the above steps 2 to 5 times till the desired result is achieved.
  • Follow with another mascara coating and combing of lashes.

Step 5: Reapplication Of Mascara

  • Reapply mascara
  • Then follow it up by combing the eye lashes
  • This will give your lashes a professional look.

Final Look:

In the final look, you can easily spot the difference in the texture of the eye lashes. They are curled and appear to be longer and thicker.

This is how to curl eyelashes with any of these 3 methods. Curling the eye lashes can take some time to master, especially with the traditional eye lash curler. Till the time you are confident and comfortable to use it, try practicing with the spoon or using your fingers. Once you have perfected it, move on to the curler.
