Hair Follicles: Understanding Their Location in the Skin

Hair follicles are based in the dermis layer of the skin.

More specifically, the hair bulb, which is the expanded lower end of the hair follicle where hair growth occurs, resides deep within the dermis and can even extend into the subcutaneous fat layer (hypodermis).
