View Photos As the monsoon season is here hair care has become a big concern for the women/men . Though rain has brought relief from the scorching heat, it is important to take care of your hair as they get highly affected due to humidity rise in the climate. Loss of hair and scalp problems are very common problems this season.
Constant drenching leads to hair problems and scalp diseases so an effective hair care is a must if you want to preserve the quantity and quality of your hair. Exposure to dirty rainwater and consequent warm, humid weather conditions leads to the growth of bacteria and fungi on the scalp. As the lice breed during monsoon season, lice infestation is very easy common. Painful puss-filled boils due to bacterial infections, constant itching and flaking patches on the scalp results to hair loss especially in the effected area.
However, by following few simple tips you can keep your hair problems to the minimum and maintain your hair too.
Hair wash: Wash your hair after getting drenched. Never leave it without a shampoo after rainwater wets your hair. Otherwise, washing hair two or three times a week will keep the hair clean. It will also prevent the hair from drying and reduce frizziness. Use a mild shampoo without alcohol in it so as to avoid dry hair. Apply it on the roots and scalp. The ends get cleansed while rinsing.
Use a conditioner after hair wash to avoid tangled hair and keep it smooth and manageable.
Conditioning is a must for hair care in monsoon season as excess humidity tends to frizz the hair and a conditioner wash after the hair wash neutralizes the frizzing and smoothen the hair. Women/ men with curly hair are recommended to apply humidity-protected gel before leaving the house. It forms a protective cover on the hair and protects moisture from settling on the scalp.
Dry your hair after hair wash. Use a hair dryer with a diffuser attached and keep it 6-8 inches away from it to avoid burning of the hair. Ideally let the hair dry partially of its own. If you are outdoors, use a wide toothed, hard rubber or plastic comb to gently detangle the hair.
Avoid moisture: Moisture is very prevalent in the monsoon season. It directly affects your hair regardless of your being outdoors or at home. Depending on your hair type, it may leave your hair frizzy or flat. Use a non-sticky hairspray to protect hair from moisture. A normal routine for hair care would be shampooing your hair, conditioning it, followed by styling gel and hairspray (if required).
Hair massage: As oil massage increases the blood flow to the hair follicles and beneath the scalp, oiling the hair helps in hair growth and keeps them strong and healthy. It also relaxes the body and mind. Massage has been proved more beneficial for the dry hair as it increases blood circulation and produces natural oil. It is recommended that excessive head oil massage for oily hair can increases hair problems as there is enough natural oil in the scalp.
Use hair oils such as coconut oil, medicated with Bringaraja, Neela, Amalaki, Haritaki, Vibhitake etc. Avoid lukewarm oil as it enters the pores of follicles easily. Massage your scalp gently with fingertips. Don't massage for a longer time as it causes weak and brittle hair to fall.
So, take proper hair care and enjoy the rainy weather. Keep it natural and avoid excessive use of cosmetic hair products like gels and color sprays.
