There is no denying of the fact that people spend quite a handsome amount of money on haircuts. Many people dye and color their hair too. Various brands of shampoos, oils and conditioners are in demand nowadays.
But what about those who do not have the opportunity to take care of their hair and are losing it frequently?
There is competition at every turn of life. People are competing against each other to survive. As a result, the stress level increases along with the workload. In the struggle to strike a balance between the social and professional lives, tension arises. Then, gradually they find a big bald patch on top of their heads, even before they reach their 30th birthday.
Hair loss is a growing problem these days. Many of those who are yet to reach their 30s also suffer from this baldness problem nowadays. There are certain reasons for hair fall, and none of them occur due to the actions of harmful organisms. It can be classified as a disease, but in medical terms, it is not entirely a disease.
Hair loss usually occurs due to certain skin conditions, consumption of drugs, certain infections, trauma and sometimes as a side effect of medical treatments like chemotherapy. Hair loss also occurs during pregnancy. But, owing to the current situations of everyday life, trauma is the main cause behind more than half the hair loss cases.
For men, hair loss is a concerning factor as they suddenly start looking like a sullen old person. Depression sets in due to this reason. They find it difficult to concentrate on their work. They lose self-confidence. Both their social and professional lives get severely disrupted. Similarly, for women, they take pride in their long hair. Hair fall or loss of hair becomes a matter of great concern. Individuals, irrespective of their sex, remain worried about hair fall, and are always in search of alternatives as a solution to the situation.
But now, there is one less thing to worry about. Doctors and scientists from all over the world have come up with a solution after many years of vigorous research. And, it has become almost 100% effective so far.
Hair transplantation technology has changed the face of the hair treatment business. Every day, thousands of people are benefited by the clinical treatment provided by this system. Men and women with hair loss problems are no longer an object of mockery at social gatherings and different other functions. It has also improved the work life of people by providing a solution to the hair loss problem.
Basically, hair transplantation is a kind of surgery, where artificial hairs are transplanted on a person’s scalp. It is like sowing seeds in a field, to be very precise. It was Dr. Norman Orentreich, a dermatologist, who first started his experiments on human scalp grafts in the late 1950s. He also hinted at the possibility of the donor-concept through his research. He found the hair lasting long and intact on the receiver’s head.
Many experimentations were conducted on this topic for the next twenty years, but the doctors were not successful in transplanting the smaller grafts. Finally, in the 80s, two doctors, Dr. Uebel from Brazil and Dr. William Rassman from the US were successful in transplanting, what we call “micrografts”. At the end of the decade, Dr B.L Limmer dissected a donor strip into multiple micro grafts using a stereo microscope. In the 2000s, surgeons adopted the “lateral slit” technique to orient follicular grafts. It has been proven to have better effects on patients than the previous ones.
Through the years, the process of hair transplantation has become more time-saving and easier. Technological advancements have led to an increase in the effectiveness of the transplantation as well. The hair transplantation surgery takes only a few hours, and the patient gets released immediately after its completion. There are generally no side effects of the transplantation surgeries, and rarely any instructions are needed to be followed thereafter.
At first, the scalp of the patient is analyzed by the doctor, who discusses their preferences and expectations regarding the entire case. Folliscopy is conducted on the patient, which reveals the actual density of the hair. The doctor makes his own assumptions and proceeds accordingly. A date is fixed before the surgery. The consumption of alcohol and certain drugs are strictly prohibited before the surgery. This is done because it has been found out that after that alcohol may lead to the degradation of the graft follicles and reduce the chances of their survival. Certain medications, such as antibiotics are also prescribed by doctors as a solution for skin problems (if any) occurring post transplant.
