If you have fair and healthy skin, congratulations! But it is not a must for you to have the fair and healthy skin when you are pregnant. You can face a lot of skin problems like pimples, dry skin, dark spots, etc. Certainly, no one wants that, so you must learn how to deal with such skin problems.
Acne or pimple is the Number 1 problem that pregnant women face. Due to the hormonal change inside your body, your sebaceous glands are more active and therefore secret more sebum. The excess sebum clogs your pore and causes pimple formation especially around the chin and mouth. Change to some oil-free products and makeup. Do not use vitamin A skincare products or take any acne medicines.
Pigmentation is also common for pregnant women. The pigmentation is again caused by your hormonal change. Such pigmentation will finally causes dark spots on your face especially the forehead and cheek. You should protect your skin from sunlight by applying at least SPF 15 sunscreen. If needed, you can further protect your skin by wearing cap when you go outside.
It is fun and happy to see your baby grows. As your baby grows, your abdomen becomes larger and larger and you abdominal skin and breast skin becomes more and more stretched. In this case, you may find a lot of reddish streaks on your abdomen and breast that probably you are not happy with. In fact, the streaks may fade after the delivery. To reduce the streaks, you can also try to message your breast and abdomen with almond oil, olive oil or vitamin E.
During your pregnancy, it is common for you to experience itching on your breast and abdomen. The itching is normally caused by the stretched skin on such body parts. What you can do is to apply some anti-itch cream to reduce the itching. You can also try olive oil or aloe gel as it soothes the skin. If you find the itching is serious and continuous, you may need to consult a doctor. Itching can be a symptom of Cholestasis.
If you see a brown line running from the navel to the pubic bone, do not be afraid. It is a common skin problem to pregnant called Linea Nigra. It has the highest chance to happen during the forth to fifth month of pregnancy. Very unluckily, there is no way to prevent or to help. But the line will fade after your delivery.
Being a mother is a great job to do. Though you may experience the skin problem that you have never faced before, you will be happy and excited about your babies.
