DIY Lavender Water: A Simple Guide to Homemade Fragrance & Skin Toner

Lavender water -- with many uses including freshening up bed linens and calming the skin -- is sold in stores, but it comes with a hefty price tag. You can make your own lavender water at home for a fraction of the cost. After you whip up a batch, spritz it around the house to freshen the air, or fill up the water tank in your iron before pressing your bedding.

Lavender Water With Flowers

  • Put 3 cups of dried lavender flowers into a jar.

  • Add 1 cup rosewater and 1 cup white wine vinegar. Put the lid on the jar and let it sit in a cool, dark place for about three weeks.

  • Shake the jar every couple of days to help the flowers dissolve into the liquid. Strain the mixture through a piece of cheesecloth after three weeks, and transfer it to a bottle for storage.

Lavender Water With Oil

  • Pour 3 ounces of clear vodka into a glass jar. Add 3 cups of distilled water.

  • Add 15 to 30 drops of lavender essential oil to the liquid. Put the lid on the jar and shake it up.

  • Let the mixture sit for two days. Shake the mixture again, and transfer it to a bottle for storage.
