Revive Old Perfume: Creative Uses & Preventing Waste

Perfumes get old, and they become stale, especially in fluctuating temperatures. The smell can change, and the perfume can also cause skin irritation sometimes. Find new ways to use old perfumes in your collection without wasting them by throwing them out or pouring them down the drain?

  • Use as usual if there is no skin irritation; the smell will be different, but it should still be pleasant. When the smell changes, some imbalance has occurred in the mix, and sometimes the imbalance causes skin irritation. If your skin has reacts, though, discontinue use. You can still use the perfume throughout the house, however.

  • Add some to Epsom salts and add to your bath water. The scent you choose should depend on your current mood and the state you want to achieve. For instance, if you are stressed out or upset, do not go for the cooler scents, as they cause more adrenaline to be released into your system. Opt for warmer scents, like vanilla and lavender, to relieve tension.

  • Spray on several different perfume cards--small, still pieces of paper similar to business cards--and put in gym bags, under couch cushions, in drawers or closets, and in bathrooms.

  • Pour some on top of potpourri to boost the aroma. If your potpourri is dry, spray a perfume card generously and stick it underneath the potpourri. This allows the smells to blend. Putting a small fan in the room will help to circulate the scent.
