Guide to Recycling Aluminum Blinds: Simple Steps & Best Practices

Any aluminum product is recyclable, including old aluminum blinds. Whether your blinds are broken or you are simply updating your window treatments, you can dispose of your old aluminum blinds by sending them to your local recycling center after properly preparing them. If you have curbside pickup, you can even place the blinds in the pickup container with your aluminum cans and other aluminum products.

  • Wipe down the aluminum blinds with a damp cloth to remove dust, dirt or cobwebs.

  • Use a pair of scissors to cut the ladder strings holding the blinds together and to remove the pull cord. Your local recycling center may not accept the strings.

  • Contact your local recycling center to see if they offer curbside pickup. If so, place the blinds in an approved container on the pickup day. The recycling center will remove them for you. If the center does not offer pickup, take the blinds to the center on the designated drop-off day.
