Best Way to Store Flour Tortillas: Keep Them Fresh Longer

Flour tortillas are a flatbread most commonly used in Mexican cuisine. Tortillas are traditionally used to make tacos and burritos, but they can also make a tasty wrap for sandwich fillings. They are typically sold in bags containing eight or more tortilla rounds. Once opened, the tortillas only remain good for two to four days before they begin to dry or mold. Storing them in the refrigerator helps extend the shelf life of the tortillas.

  • Place the tortillas inside a zip-closure food storage bag. Press as much air as possible out of the bag and seal it closed.

  • Store the bagged tortillas in the refrigerator. The tortillas retain their quality for up to two weeks.

  • Remove tortillas from the bag as needed. Each time, squeeze out the air and reseal the bag immediately so the remaining tortillas retain their quality.
