Mice are common household pests. The rodents are known for making home in just about any location in a home, from walls to attics and even the insulation in a stove. While it's always a better option to call a professional to deal with removing mice in a humane fashion, you can use a few methods to prevent mice from getting into your kitchen appliances, especially the stove. The best two ways to keep mice out of the kitchen are through sanitation and ensuring the mice don't have a way inside.
Clean the entire area around the stove and inside the stove oven frequently. Mice are attracted to areas with odors. Because you cook with the stove, a greater chance exists for mice to burrow in the insulation in the oven walls, according to United Wildlife.
Place wooden snap mousetraps inside the oven or under the stove top, out of reach of small children and pets. Snap traps are usually the best option for catching mice and for their removal. Keep them out of insulation by drawing their attention to the trap with bait such as a piece of cheese or with peanut butter. This works best if only one mouse is in the home.
Place cotton balls soaked with peppermint oil inside the oven, near the walls and under the stove top. Mice avoid the scent of peppermint oil. Because you may not want pesticides or poisons around your stove top and oven, using the natural oil is an option and will deter mice from getting near the oven and insulation.
