Easy Guide: Cleaning Gas Stove Burner Grates - Restore Shine!

Gas stoves have burner grates that hold pots and skillets while cooking. Over time, grease and food stains become cooked onto the burner grates, making them difficult to remove. Fortunately, burner grates can be removed from the stove for easier cleaning. With warm, soapy water and some elbow grease, the burner grates can look fresh and new again.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Dish detergent
  • Nylon scrub pad
  • Baking soda
  • Clean cloths
  • Fill a sink with warm water and three squirts of dish detergent.

  • Remove burner grates from the gas stove. Make sure all burners are turned off before removing the grates.

  • Place the burner grates into the warm, soapy water. Allow the grates to soak in the sink for 20 minutes. This loosens any burnt-on food or grease.

  • Drain the sink after 20 minutes and refill with warm water and two squirts of dish detergent.

  • Scrub the burner grates with a nylon scrub pad, removing all caked-on food.

  • Mix 3 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 or 2 tsp. of water to form a paste. Apply the baking soda paste to any stains not removed. Allow the paste to sit on the stain for 15 minutes.

  • Rinse the burner grates in warm water, removing the paste and any leftover stains. Dry the burner grates with a clean cloth and place back onto the stove.
