Mid-Michigan MRI: Advanced Imaging Services | Sparrow & MSU

Mid-Michigan MRI is a 501c3 and is a joint venture between Sparrow Hospital and Michigan State University. The combined medical and educational technology and knowledge allow patients to receive the most optimal care when they undergo an MRI procedure.

When a patient arrives at Mid-Michigan MRI, he will receive the utmost in care. Our technicians are highly trained and supervised by radiologists during the procedures. When you enter the room for the procedure, you will be given the option of wearing your own clothing or you may be asked to remove your garments and put on a gown. Make sure to leave all jewelry and other metals at home as metal can affect the imaging. Be sure to alert your technician as to any medications you may be taking even if you are only taking vitamins and/or supplements. If you are feeling apprehensive about the MRI procedure, make sure you inform the technician as well.

If you have any health concerns or think you may be pregnant, you should tell your technician immediately before the MRI begins. Women who are breastfeeding should also inform their technician. You do not need to fast before the procedure; however, if you have questions about eating or drinking prior to the MRI, contact Mid-Michigan MRI.

Some patients may experience claustrophobia before an MRI procedure. If this is the case, they may need a sedative to help them through the procedure. Young children who may have problems staying still for the entire time of the MRI may require sedation as well. The doctors at Sparrow Hospital handle any sedation requirements and not the staff at Mid-Michigan.

During the procedure, you can listen to music via CD or radio. If you have a CD that you particularly enjoy, bring it with you and the staff at Mid-Michigan will make sure that it plays during your procedure. Your comfort is of utmost importance during your procedure and we strive to make sure that your needs are met.

There are a variety of MRI services provided at Mid-Michigan MRI. The Wide Bore MRI is available for patients who suffer from claustrophobia and cannot handle being enclosed in a traditional MRI machine. The Wide Bore MRI is also an excellent choice for patients who may be physically large and need additional space.

With the Open MRI Michigan patients who cannot handle being enclosed in the traditional MRI have another alternative. The Open MRI is open on both sides of the patient; however, the image quality is the same as the traditional MRI. Mid-Michigan MRI also has the most innovative High Field MRI unit, the Tesla 3, which offers high definition joint imaging as well as brain imaging. The Tesla 3 is the newest MRI scanner available in the area. A mobile MRI is also available at Mid-Michigan and mobile MRI services are available at two area hospitals during the week. PET and CT scans are also part of the services available at Mid-Michigan MRI.

Because of our commitment to excellence and our partnership with knowledgeable medical personnel, at Mid-Michigan MRI, we pride ourselves on the quality care we provide to our patients.
