Effective Foot Spa Chair Cleaning & Sanitization: A Comprehensive Guide

Foot spa chairs are pretty common within spas and will need to be disinfected often. Before anyone uses a foot spa chair the owner of the chair should check the client for any open sores or try and see if skin wounds are present. Some of these things that the client could have on their legs or feet include insect bites, scratches, wounds and if a person has any of these conditions they should not use the foot bath in case of contamination. Normally a person will get a pedicure or wax only after the person's feet and legs have soaked well in the foot spa chair basin (which is the tub of water attached to the chair in which the clients soak their feet and legs).

Of course the real process for disinfecting a foot spa basin is much more thorough then the simple steps that are mentioned above. What is mentioned above is merrily a guideline to keeping your foot spa chair in the best condition between disinfection procedures. When you are dealing with a foot spa chair and the basin that is attached to it you really need to be careful because you want to make sure that everything is clean and maintained properly because if it isn't then your customers could sick or they could get an infected cut. What you want to do when you go to disinfect a foot spa chair is this (keep in mind that this should be done after every client if they used the foot spa chair and corresponding basin):

1. Drain the water from the foot spa basin and remove any leftover grime.
2. Clean the surfaces of the foot spa and basin with soap or detergent and then rinse with water and then drain the water from the basin.
3. After you thoroughly clean the basin with soap and water or detergent you should go ahead and disinfect the basin with a EPA-registered hospital disinfectant (this is important because it needs to be a strong disinfectant). Depending on the type of disinfectant that you purchase the surface of the foot spa chair basin should be wet with the disinfectant for 10 minutes or shorter depending on what it says on the disinfectant that you decided to purchase.
4. If you happen to have a foot spa chair that circulates (such as an air-jet basin, "pipe-less" or a whirlpool basin, then you should turn on the whirlpool or other such effect during the time that the disinfectant is disinfecting).
5. After all that is done and you have disinfected the basin then you should rinse with water one more time and if you own a foot spa chair that has a whirlpool type effect you should probably turn that on too. After you have rinsed with water you should then drain it and let the basin air dry.

Of course this is just a guideline to keeping you foot spa clean and you should remember that keeping your foot spa and its basin clean and disinfected is very important and when you keep it clean you are keeping your customers happy and healthy.
