HOW TO DEAL WITH A BREAK UP? 8 WAYS TO SEE IT POSITIVELY

  • How to deal with a break up? 8 ways to see it positively

‘It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.’

    —Alfred Lord Tennyson

Breaking up is never easy, even when you know it’s for the best and, to start with, looking on the bright side is the last thing on your mind, but there are positive outcomes to a break up that you don’t think about at the time. More often than not, a break up leads to new beginnings and it opens up new doors that you’d never even considered before, so don’t feel down in the dumps, cheer up instead and read our eight tips on how to deal with a break up and ways that you can view it in a positive light:

    1. Break ups help us to become a person

The term ‘other half’ is often used to describe someone in a long term relationship and it really is rather telling one. ‘Other half’ implies that you are not a whole without the other person and, of course, that is simply not true. Breaking up teaches that we are human beings in our own right, and we become stronger and more independent, as a result of the experience.

    2. It just wasn’t meant to be

Another tip on how to deal with a break up is – simply accept that it just wasn’t meant to be…It’s cheesy, it’s a cliché, but there really is a lot of truth to this saying. There may be a single reason for a break up, such as infidelity, but underneath that, there are probably deeper reasons. Whichever way you look at it, if it wasn’t going to work, then you’re better off out if it.

    3. Going through a break up makes you a stronger person

Dealing with an emotional breakup is hard, but from that harshness comes a stronger you. We have to learn to deal with many, many things in life: disappointments, bereavements  and sometime even betrayal, but each one of these experiences that we go through teaches us new lessons and we become a better person from it.

    4. Redirect your frustration

Another great tip on how to deal with a break up is – redirect your frustration. A good way to make some positive use out of your anger and frustration with your ex is to channel that aggression into something more productive. Forget the man bashing or ripping up his clothes, and get out and do something instead. Work out, set new goals, take up running or take up a new hobby and channel all that energy into something useful.

    5. Allow yourself some grieving time

Another advice on how to deal with a break up is – allow yourself some grieving time. Even when you know it’s for the best, don’t beat yourself up for feeling sad, it’s a natural and essential part of the healing process. Shed a tear if you need to, tidy away the reminders around the home and then, when you’re ready, you can move on.

    6. A breakup gives you back your freedom!

It may not be that you wanted, but a breakup frees you to be able to do the things in life that you want to do. You can now make decisions on where you want to go in your life, without having to consider another person’s point of view, so start planning now!

    7. Love yourself and put yourself first

Forget all the ‘should haves’ and ‘could haves’ that might be passing through your mind, it’s time for you now to put yourself first. These things are rarely just one person’s fault, as it takes two to tango, so don’t blame yourself. Instead, use the time you have now to treat yourself to a few pleasurable things and enjoy yourself.

    8. It’s not the end, it’s the beginning

Closing the page on one chapter is not the end of the book. Take a positive view of this episode in your life, when you can, and remember that this chapter may have been finished, but that means that there is a whole new and exciting one waiting for you over the next page.
