QuestionI am a chronic ice chewer and have been for over 15 years now. I chew on ice so often that it tends to be an automatic substitution for drinking water. Since ice is made of water, am I still getting the same benefits from chewing it as opposed to drinking it? Just wondered. Thanks.

AnswerHello Nicole,
Thank you for your nutrition question. You are still getting the same health benefits of drinking water when you chew on ice. However, many people habitually chew on ice, which can cause gum injuries and, most frequently, broken teeth. Sometimes the damage is severe enough to require a crown. If ice chewing is a part of your day, try sugarless gum instead. If you need the crunch, try baby carrots or apple chunks. They also have alot of nutrients.
