Expert Answers: Prenatal & Postnatal Fitness Advice

Question
Hi Doc,
This may be an unusual question for ya, so take your time answering.

I am also an expert here at allexperts.com in the exercise and aerobic categories. I've been a fitness professional for over 3 years, have appeared numberous times on our local news station, and have co-authored an '04 book release. One of my specialties- or shall I say areas of expertise- is in pre and post natal fitness as these were the topics of the majority of my television appearances. However, I'm stumped as to how to break into this market and create strategic alliances with ob-gyn docs here locally.

With you being an ob-gyn yourself, how would you prefer being approached by a fitness professional offering care to your patients? I haven't tried contacting any yet as I want to get the best angle possible to increase my chances of success.

Phone? Mail? Just show up at the office? I'd prefer working with post natal women to be quite honest, are there any avenues, such as strategic alliances with professionals other than ob-gyn docs working with these type of clients, to best position myself as an expert? I guess I'm looking for the best way to get my foot in the door and set up a meeting with one of the doctors. I know that you guys are bombarded by sales people ALL the time and I don' want to be seen as a sales person but somewhat as a non-medical school attending peer with the same goal of helping women during and after pregnancy.

Thanks for your time!

Todd Scott

Answer
Your best bet would be to send a brochure to each office and follow it up with a call to set up a meeting to meet with the doctor and describe the services that you provide to our patients. Include in the brochure all your credentials and background and explain what, exactly, you would offer to the patients so as to return them to their pre-pregnancy condition or what you would do to aid them during their pregnancy months. There is definitely a need for your services. Good Luck to you.
