Hormone Replacement Therapy Alternatives: Safety & Bioidentical Options
QuestionI have been taking Ogen 1.25 for 25 years due to early hysterectomy(total). I would like a safer alternative and have heard Estrace might be better since it is made of yams. Yet the insert issues the same warnings as the synthetic estrogens. Would this be a safer choice? I have tried BioIdentical but got scared and went back to Ogen because I was afraid maybe the BioIdentical hormones (since such little is known about them) may not offer the same bone protection and benefits such as skin and vaginal dryness). What is your opinion on Estrace as far as a safer alternative to Ogen and your opinion on BioIdentical verses Estrace?
AnswerThe jury is still out on bioidentical hormones. Here's a good link to show you the potential dangers of Estrace http://www.drugs.com/estrace.html
Most medical doctors will not even tell you that bioidenticals are better because their use is so new and scientific evidence is still outstanding. Many, however, are recommending them to women.
