Summer Skin Solutions: Natural Remedies for Heat Rash, Sunburn & Dullness

Long gone are the days when summers meant mangoes, vacations and sleeping outside under a starry night.  Now summers means heat rash, sunburns, sweat and a lot many skin troubles. Let us do some cupboard magic on the most common skin troubles and vanish them to enjoy the summers like before.

So here are the ways on how to take care of skin in summer:

Dull Skin:

This is the most common skin problem in summer.

Ever wondered why your skin is dull and lifeless in summer’s in-spite of the head-to-toe cover up’s hiding from Sun?

Culprit:

Dehydration of Skin. Experts suggest that drinking water helps internally, but skin also requires external nourishment to cope with the soared up summer temperatures.

Victims:

This is observed in any type of skin but more prominently in dry skin.

Magic Potions:

    • Milk Almond Pack:Soak some almonds overnight in water. The next morning, grind the almonds by adding milk to make a smooth paste. Apply this to the face for 15 minutes and rinse off.
    • Honey Pack:Apply honey on face & neck, wait for 15 minutes, rinse off with lukewarm water and say hello to glowing soft skin. Honey is a natural non-oily moisturizer.
    • Curd Pack:Mix 2 tablespoons of curd with half table spoon of gram flour. Apply this to face and wait for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.

Sun Burns:

One day of forgetting sunscreen and excessive exposure to Sun gives sun burns which results in peeling skin, redness and pain. This is the biggest of skin problems during summer.

Culprit:

As the name suggests SUN.

Victims:

Sun burns are mostly observed on Sensitive Skin.So Sensitive Skin people beware!!!

Magic Potion:

    • Aloe Vera:Cut a small piece off a leaf, slice it into half and rub the gel directly on the sun burn. Provides moisturization and soothes the dry peeling skin.
    • Sandal Mask:Mix sandalwood powder with water and use as a mask for face or apply directly on the affected areas. Sandalwood has a cooling effect which reduces the skin irritation.

Pricky Heat/ Heat Rashes:

Heat Rash is an itchy prickly rash caused by heat. They are not dangerous but can make you very uncomfortable.

Culprit:

Blocked sweat glands. Hence it is advisable to avoid tight clothes in summers

Victims:

Anyone and any part of the body can be a victim of heat rashes.

Magic Potions:

  • Buttermilk: Apply butter milk directly on the heat rash for instant relief and cooling.
  • Baths: Add 2-3 drops of Peppermint Oil or Eucalyptus Oil in a bucket of water. Enjoying a cooling bath which relieves the itches.

Sebum:

Sebum is the oil secreted in skin which is necessary to give lubrication to skin. But summer heat causes excessive production in the sebum levels. Consequently the pores get clogged leading to blackheads, acne, pimple and various other troubles.

Culprit:

Pollution, heat and impurities.

Victims:

Oily skin people are affected most by this trouble.

Magic Potions:

  • Sandalwood & Lemon:Mix Sandalwood with lime juice and apply to face. Rinse it off with cold water after 10 minutes. Using this mask daily helps keeping the sweat and oil at bay for a longer time.
  • Cucumber Juice: Cut into slices or make it into a jucie, but apply it daily on face. Works as a natural toner and cleanser.
  • Oatmeal Scrub:Grind oatmeal into a coarse powder and mix it with milk. (Use lime juice for oily skin).Use this mixture as a scrub daily. It removes dirt and impurities. This is a trusted scrub for tan removal also.

Ingrown Hair/ Razor Bumps:

Summers are the time when we love wearing easy breezy clothes like shorts, skirts and sleeveless tops. But that means more number of hair removals, so more razor bumps and more ingrown hair.

Culprit:

Lack of exfoliation and blunt razors.

Victims:

Anyone can be a victim of ingrown hair and razor bumps but sensitive skin responds quickly.

Magic Potions:

Razor Bumps:

  • Soak Tea bags in cold water and apply them on the razor bumps. Instantly lessens the redness and pain.
  • Ice Cube: Rub ice cubes on the affected area immediately. Reduces the redness and gives relief from pain

Exfoliation Remedies:

Always exfoliate before hair removal. This applies to any method of hair removal to prevent ingrown hair.

  • Mix 1 cup of brown sugar with 1 table spoon of lime juice and 2 tablespoons of honey. Scrub the area with this mixture for 5 minutes and rinse off.
  • Take some baking soda, add 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil and mix with water. Apply the scrub with a wash cloth, gently massaging the skin as you scrub. Rinse off with warm water.
