Pimples or zits, call it whatever you want are ugly filthy spots that no one wants on their face or any other part of their body! Our first reaction to the very sight of them is to pop them. But be warned, popping pimples isn’t always the best solution as it usually leads to scarring and then comes the fact that the infection might spread. The pus in the pimple is generally infectious and when it leaks, it can spread the infection to other areas of the skin.
However, if you have no choice, here is how pop a pimple as safely as possible.
Washing hands is the first step to pop a pimple. Remember, pimples are very sensitive, therefore, any added infection will just make the problem worse. For this reason, avoid touching the pimple with bare fingers as much as possible. Wash your hands carefully. Make sure your nails are trimmed and clean.
For this, use an anti-bacterial cleanser and with the help of cotton, simply wipe the nearby areas of the pimple to get rid of any impurities, bacteria and excess oil that could hinder the popped pimple from healing fast.
Exfoliation means to dispose off any dead skin on the pimple. It helps to loosen the skin, making it easier to pop the pimple by reducing the pressure you need to apply with your finger tips. Dab small amount of exfoliator, preferably containing salicylic acid, which helps to ward off the dead cells of the skin. Wipe off with lukewarm water so that it helps the pores open up.
Caution: Do not pop pimples with bare hands
If you go back and read the above, it has been mentioned how important it is to clean your fingers before you start to pop a pimple. Therefore, to avoid any infection, it is always better to use gloves or cover your index finger. If you’re using a whitehead/blackhead removing tool, make sure it is sanitized and cleaned before you touch the pimple.
Place your fingers just next to the pimple and not directly on it. Since you have already exfoliated and your skin is not tight anymore, if you gently push your fingers with very little force, the pus would ooze out easily. Keep massaging the adjoining areas till the entire pus is out. Do not touch the pimple or the pus. Use cotton and dab to clean it. Please note, if the pimple starts to bleed, it indicates you’ve put too much pressure. This could also leave a scar behind. Once you’re done, clean the area with an antiseptic solution. Put a dot of ointment that contains benzoyl peroxide which will fasten the healing process by keeping the bacteria away.
Pimples are a result of eating junk food, drinking less water and basically having an unhealthy lifestyle. So here are a few things you can keep an eye out for.
Keep in mind that pimples have a life of their own. It is better to leave them to heal on their own. Do not pop a pimple unless you have a very important event where it is absolutely essential to look your best. Another way of doing this the easy way is to use makeup to hide pimples.
