Creative Eggshell Nail Art: A Step-by-Step DIY Guide

Have you ever wondered that how beautiful egg shells that you throw away each day after making breakfast could also make awesome art on the nails? This idea was given to me by my friend, who I met on the StyleCraze community and the credit totally goes to her! I just can’t wait to tell you how!

Things You Need:

So here are the things that you will need to make an amazing eggshell nail art:

1. Egg shells:

Clean them under tap water, then take an aluminum bowl and pour some water and crush them as small as possible and also you’ll see some skins inside the egg shells, try to wash them off as much as possible.)

2. Food color:

(Food color used in foods is terribly a no no for health but for this art it’s the magic ingredient. I used yellow 1 spoon for whole one egg shell)

Preparation Of Egg Shells:

In the aluminum bowl take about 1 cup water, and the crushed clean egg shells, you can do this in the microwave in an oven proof bowl also. Now put the required amount of color, I used 1 teaspoon, quite a lot actually so I got a dark yellow color which turned out to be orange ultimately.

Boil uncovered on low flame for quite some time till almost all the water evaporates but be careful that it’s not totally dried then you won’t be able to take the shells off the bowl, they will get burned immediately. Now leave it for some time after turning the flame off. Let the color soak in more. Now wash off under tap water, or strain with a strainer, put on a tissue or newspaper and let it dry completely.

When dried, crush even more to smaller pieces, as small and perfect you think for your nails. Store in a dry bottle.

How To Do Egg Shell Nail Art?

I’ve put 2 coats of Green base coat , and when still wet , with a tooth pick’s sharp end, and a little water at side to just wet the tip to pick the pieces, i placed the pieces like a collage on to the polish Next when all was done (best to do one nail at a time, like polishing one nail, putting pieces and then moving on to next one, otherwise before you move back to 1st nail after your fifth nail, the polish will get dried and the shells won’t stick that firmly). Next put 3-4 layers of top coat to create a heavy ground for the shells, after coating, now take the tooth pick’s sharp end and push the pieces down a bit so that they get stuck even firmly.

This stayed on my nails without any further top coat application for 5 days. But if you feel alternate or on the 3rd or 4th day again you can apply 2 thick top coat layers to make it stay further. LOOKS JUST AWESOME.

Demerit: The food colors are very strong , and it penetrates the nail enamel quite deep, so after removing the polish i had to buff, buff and buff to clean my nails . But i’ll make even more color like red, green , blue and will keep using this , JUST LOVED IT. Do try it and upload pics on our lovely stylecraze community.
